First Ghee Production Run: Steps from Sample to Batch

· Organic Farmz
Organic Farmz A2 Gir cow ghee

A first private label ghee production run begins with tasting a sample batch and signing a supply contract, after which fresh A2 Gir cow milk is converted into curd, hand-churned, simmered into bilona ghee, and poured into custom-labeled glass jars ready for delivery.

What happens during the initial enquiry and sample stage?

The journey starts when a prospective brand owner submits an enquiry by email or WhatsApp detailing their brand name, preferred jar format, estimated monthly volume, and desired launch timing. Because fat profiles and aroma preferences vary across regions, a sample batch is prepared and sent first. You taste and evaluate this sample for grain, aroma, and color before any commercial commitments or production schedules are finalized.

What key terms are settled in the written contract?

Once the sample is approved, both parties execute a formal supply agreement. This document defines the unit price, monthly volume expectations, glass jar specifications, and artwork responsibility. It also explicitly details dispute mechanisms and batch rejection parameters should a run deviate from the approved sensory baseline. The minimum order quantity, production lead time, and per-jar rate are determined individually for each brand during this sample phase based on packaging choice and initial requirements.

What is the step-by-step physical production process?

When an order is placed, production follows the traditional bilona sequence using milk from A2 Gir cows. Fresh milk is cultured into whole curd overnight, which is then hand-churned in traditional wooden pots to separate the white butter (makhan). This butter is gently simmered over low fire until the water evaporates and milk solids settle. The resulting golden liquid fat is carefully strained and left to rest undisturbed so natural granules form. Finally, the clarified fat is hot-filled into pre-sanitized glass jars, hermetically sealed, and stamped with mandatory lot numbers and batch coding.

Our cows are not use and throw

green fodder and a clay water bowl set out in front of her

A cow that stops giving milk is still our cow. She stays on the farm, with the same feed, the same shed and the same medical care she had when she was milking. We do not sell her on and we do not let her go. That is the whole basis of the ghee we make — you cannot ask an animal for her milk and then abandon her for it.

Our mission goes further than our own herd. There are cows on the street who are injured every day, who eat plastic, who cry through the night with nobody coming. We want to take them in. The plan is a chain of Organic Farmz gaushalas in several places, so that help is not one shed in one city but something a hurt animal can actually reach.

This takes more than we can carry alone — land, fodder, vets, hands. Come and join our initiative. Anything you give goes to feed, treat and shelter these cows.

How does turn-key private labeling compare to repacking bulk ghee?

Brand owners often evaluate whether to receive pre-filled, labeled jars or buy bulk containers to bottle themselves. Taking delivery of fully packaged jars protects ghee quality by eliminating secondary exposure to moisture and air.

Packaging HandlingGhee is filled, sealed, and labeled directly at the unit.Requires secondary heating, cleanroom facilities, and filling gear.
FSSAI & ComplianceJars leave with pre-printed brand details and buyer FSSAI license.Buyer manages re-bottling hygiene, batch coding, and label compliance.
Texture IntegrityGranules set naturally in the final jar without re-melting.Re-heating bulk fat to pour disrupts natural grain formation.

What final steps happen before dispatch?

Before packing, print-ready artwork provided by the brand owner—carrying their distinct FSSAI license number and mandatory consumer declarations—is applied to every jar. The finished jars are visually inspected, photographed for quality sign-off, and loaded into protective master cartons. The entire consignment leaves the facility completely sealed and retail-ready, meaning you receive final products without needing to transfer or repack any fat.
